What is Journey School?

Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.

— Winston Churchill.

G.K. Chesterton said, “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to the next.” At Journey, we strive to pass on the soul of goodness, truth, and beauty to the next generation. Our goal in education is to teach our kids to love what should be loved, to draw them up to know our Creator.

Journey School is a hybrid classical school providing classroom instruction one day per week along with comprehensive at-home curriculum and teaching support in all subjects we teach. We follow many of the ideas and methods of 20th century educator Charlotte Mason who taught that education is an atmosphere, a discipline, and a life. The Journey School faculty draws on many resources to create our own curriculum and provides home instruction support and training in the classical model.  Our goal is to make the highest quality classical education accessible to every family in our school.  To that end we are available at any level of support your family requires as you walk your own classical education journey.

Your students will have at home assignments that correspond with their classroom learning.  Journey School supplies your at-home learning guide including weekly lesson plans and a comprehensive book list.  Journey School keeps its tuition costs low by including classroom expenses only – families purchase their own books.

Classes are limited to 14 students to ensure quality teaching and plenty of intentional time with each child.

Kindergarten at Journey School has its own program.  Our Kindergarten program incorporates both classical and Montessori elements. We focus on phonics and early reading skills while nurturing children’s innate joyful curiosity through interactive and creative learning opportunities in all Journey subjects. This prepares young students to transition to the full Journey School elementary program. Our emphasis during these years is offering children an introduction to great books and learning to pay attention and observe the world that surrounds them.

Along with investing in each child, we also believe in encouraging and strengthening each other.  Journey offers Mom Dinners every month, as well as regular classical teaching trainings and a yearly conference.  We schedule individual family conferences regarding your child(ren)’s needs at the beginning of each school year.  Our desire is to build a community of families supporting and encouraging each other.

At Journey School, we believe that God wants us to know Him and His creation. By expanding our hearts and minds in knowledge and wisdom we become more like Him. We agree with Elizabeth Barrett Browning that “Earth’s crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God; But only he who sees, takes off his shoes…”

Journey was created to walk beside you in the grand adventure of opening young eyes to wisdom and virtue. We are here to help and encourage as you train hearts and minds to love what is good, true, and beautiful.

Enjoy the Journey!
